Relationships and Spiritual Lessons: part 2 Toxic Relationship
As in my previous blog, click link here I discussed in detail the karmic relationships with the lessons they are meant to teach us. People often use the term karmic interchangeably with toxic, though they both are completely different. They have their own set of challenges to deal with or rather I would say they are presented so that you are able to reflect, navigate and execute deep cellular healing of body, mind & soul.
How it presents?

It presents mostly as a complex of negative patterns and behaviors that impact the individual not just emotionally but also mentally and at times physically
- Verbal abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Physical abuse
- Financial abuse
- Control & manipulation/ narcissism
- Single sided effort
- Lack of respect
- Constant conflict and escalations
- Fear, anxiety, lack of trust
What it highlights to the victim?
The characteristics mentioned above highlights the wounds we carry subconsciously, triggers them and a lot of times it will throw you into a deep well of pain & despair unfortunately. It will make you question your own existence, cost your sanity that keeps you trapped in a victim mentality forcing you to look at the problems rather than solutions.
What lessons are they meant to teach us?
Its important to understand what made you choose a relationship that turned out to be toxic? Except for relationships that are unavoidable with no choice like parents, siblings, a work colleague, a teacher etc. While sitting in that dark well with despair, suffering through guilt wont help. Self- Awareness is the way forward. You may see these patterns in yourself, mentioned below :
- Lack of self-worth
- Lack of healthy boundaries
- Indecision to take action before its too late
- Incapable to discern
- Unable to communicate your needs authentically and freely
- Fear of abandonment
- Fear of rejection
- Fear of betrayal
How to protect yourself?

Its not possible to walk away from every toxic relationship like a toxic parent.
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents.”
Quran 17:23
Well in these tricky unavoidable situations you have to build an energetic shield around you, master emotional intelligence as you are accountable for your own actions only. Tread carefully and kindly in such situations. Toxic people operate from their own unhealed traumas lowering your self-worth. Its not your baggage to carry at all. Don’t deny, accept it and put an intention to healing the self. Click hear for detail guidance on cultivating inner peace.
What is the Spiritual Lesson Behind these sufferings?
Toxic relationships are a marker of unhealthy, harmful behaviors with no direct spiritual purpose to it, whereas Karmic relationships on the other hand are intense, emotionally debilitating, energetically addictive, carries a soul purpose for higher self alignment. In a karmic relationship, if you choose to stay then it will transform, upgrade into a toxic one. In my practice I have witnessed 3rd party relationships that are karmic though a taboo, are meant to teach a lesson for spiritual ascension. Its a harsh truth, a dark reality. Who are we to judge? When Allah forgives the greatest of sins AL- GHAFFAR, ALREHMAN.
Final Thoughts:

Toxic relationships are draining, chaotic with obscured growth. In Islam we are tested, we learn lessons, we move on from toxicity. What matters in this lifetime is to put an end to the miseries as every problem comes with a solution. Focusing on the solution is the key to cultivate inner peace, prioritize your wellbeing, be discerning, not every battle is yours to fight. Choosing quality over quantity
