Karma - An Islamic Perspective

I will start with a famous saying “ YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW”. Karma in a simplified term means being accountable for your actions. Now the question arises who is the judge in the court of karma?
AL HAKAM : The one and only true judge that delivers justice
AL ADL: The utterly just
AL MUQSIT: The equitable

These are the few attributes to the Sovereignty of ALLAH, He is the Master of the Day of Judgement. Our actions with intention shape our karmic destiny in this world and hereafter.

What is meant by karmic loop?

The repeating patterns or cycles in our life are referred to as karmic loop. The same situation at core with a new face, identity or location. A simplest of an example in relationship would be attracting same type of personality a manipulator as a potential partner, ignoring red flags and falling into a same emotional trap again and again. A work related example could be settling for crumbs when you are worthy of having the whole bread to yourself. These examples reflect on how unhealed wounds make us operate from our shadow self, imprinting the ugly, unhappy, sad version of self keeping us trapped in a karmic loop by default due to fear of emotional abandonment and inner unworthiness. These behaviors can be unlearned by following simple steps mentioned below.

What is generational karma?

The patterns including set of beliefs, emotional wounds, traumas that are passed down from one generation to others is not really a karma but a subconscious conditioning. The choices made from this place of subconscious conditioning creates a karmic pattern that follows through until intervened. Now the next question arises, how to intervene? Again it all starts from within, first a superficial overview then a deep dive into the subconscious behaviors to shackle the chains of devil inside us.

“Indeed ALLAH doesn’t wrong people at all, but it is the people who wrong themselves”

Surah Yunus, verse 10:44

Allah’s Mercy determines the outcome to our deeds/ sins. To achieve karmic balance, spiritual cleanse is important to exercise.

Spiritual cleanse for karmic balance:

It all starts from taking a first step to liberation, aligning with your true north, cultivating inner peace. I successfully overcame the limiting beliefs by rewiring my subconscious. If I can achieve, so can you.

  1. Purity of Intention: The foundation of any action is intention/ niyah. The purest it is, the cleaner you are.
  2. Devotion to the Divine: Zameer, The soul is the true reflection of divine within. Listen to it.
  3. Mindfulness: Focus on present, ask yourself am I repeating the same pattern that will bring out the same outcome?
  4. Deep Self- Reflection: Assess, be kind and forgiving to your self. Take note of your patterns first then apply the same to others you are dealing with. Always choose whats right for you.
  5. Stop the Blame Game: Don’t blame yourself and others. The inner work is yours alone, nobody else will do it for you.
  6. Practice Patience: Inner work takes time, unconditioning the subconscious and reinventing the authentic self is worth waiting for. Good things come to those who wait patiently amidst chaos.
  7. Surrender: When life throws lemon at you, make lemonade. Aligning to Divine Will, will light up the path with stronger muscles to navigate through challenges. Do not resist change.
  8. Charity / Sadaqah: The concept of charity in Islam is Purification of self and wealth.

“Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity”

“Those who spend their wealth by night and by day, secretly and openly, will have their reward with their Lord”

Surah Al Baqarah 2:274

Final Thoughts:

What goes around comes around,” Law of Accountability”. In hinduism, christianity and many other beliefs these karmic debts are to be paid of in this lifetime or next. Yes thats true that karma has to be cleared, it has to be balanced but there is a Supreme power, AL REHMAN, AL GHAFFAR, AL AFFU. He Who forgives the greatest of sins. He has the Ultimate power to cancel out the pending karma, free you from karmic debts as far as you decide to repent with sincerity. We learn our karmic lessons not to repeat them but to break free from the karmic loop. Let karma unfold the loop of infinite abundance for a prosperous life in this world and hereafter.
